Guatteria gaumeri acts on the liver and gallbladder, kidney and pancreas. It has an affinity to improving digestive complaints with liver and biliary manifestation. It is one of the most frequently used homoeopathic remedies for liver complaints. It is reported for gallstone. Its anti-hypercholesterolemic effect was reported way back in 1982. Studies have found that this is primarily due to its main component, alpha-asarone, that helps decrease the secretion of lipids. It is also found to be non-toxic. A clinical study has shown a decrease in TC, LDL, and VLDL and an increase in HDL.
